The Sham of "Growing Pains"

teens walking arms on shouldersWe have all heard it before, or as parents, thought it. Your child randomly throughout the day, or wakes up in the night, and has pain in their arms or legs most commonly.

At first it happens, and you don’t think too much about it, maybe you even say “ahhh well it’s just growing pains.” Hopefully a medication isn’t given for it, but sometimes it probably is. After all, that is how we are raised in the west. Have pain, take a drug.

Eventually if there are enough of these growing pains, or the child’s symptoms are causing extreme stress to the parent, he/she is taken to the primary care physician only to be reassured that it is in fact growing pains. They are told that their child will “grow” out of them like everyone else.

I am going to offer you a different perspective. If we think about the physiology of a growing bone, do you know when the last bone fuses its epiphyseal plates (growth plate)?

At 25 years old, the clavicle’s epiphyseal plate fuses, and the body is fully grown. Until then, the body is growing all over. The spine does not fully mature and fuse until around 18 years old. If you look at the areas of the most proliferative bone growth, look to the distal femur and proximal tibia (the knee region), and the distal humerus (the elbow region).

The arms and legs are where the growing pains are commonly felt. Now I am going to be candid because that is what you need to hear, growing pains DO NOT exist. Thats right, I said it. Growing pains do not exist! If growing pains existed, why don’t you hear about them in the clavicular (collar bone) region of every 22 to 25-year-old?

Growing pains should be in every child like clockwork if they existed. Physiologically, if something is normal in growth, every child will experience similar symptoms and there is not such ambiguity.

Our bodies are all different yes, but the growth process from a physiological perspective is the same steps in all. Up until the age of 25 every bone in your body is growing, some fuse early and some fuse later. Could it be that growing pains are another allopathic explanation for things they do not understand?

Western medicine is thought to be highly effective in diagnosis, however let me explain to you how that is quite the contrary. Let me sum it up for you quite simply without a research article. The strong majority of diseases/conditions taught in pathology courses at Palmer College of Chiropractic (hundreds of them) are idiopathic. I would have to go back and count them all, but I assure you it is over 60%. Idiopathic means they have no idea what is going on. How often does one go into the medical doctor only to find out that they do not know what is happening? Then the journey from specialist to specialist only to find out again, they do not know what is going on.

How many times is cancer diagnosed but no root cause to the cancer is given? Or what about autoimmunity? Does anyone ever get a root cause diagnosis that goes to a medical doctor and gets diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, PCOS, endometriosis, lupus, and the list goes on.

Growing pains do not exist. The pain is a symptom of one of two things: chiropractic subluxation complex or vital organ meridian obstruction.

This blog post will just address the meridian obstruction. There are twelve vital organ meridian pathways in the body. These pathways are mapped out and have been for a long time. We can thank our Asian friends and experts in Acupuncture for doing this. The growing pains — to an expert — can be mapped out with time zones and meridian pathways associated to a specific vital organ meridian such as the liver.

So let us discuss a case example. My son has a severe neuro-sensitivity/allergy to red dye, and other dyes.  When he eats them, he gets “growing pains.” At Easter one year, he was given a bunch of jellybeans. He munched them all down before I could talk to him since he knows I do not like those growing pain inducing beans, like a typical kid. He wakes up in the middle of the night at about one in the morning, and his feet are hurting so bad he is screaming in pain.

Thankfully I understand what a meridian is, and I know how to clear them. I gave him some arnica homeopathic pills and some bio-plasma cell salts to manage the pain, and then rubbed gate points to clear the obstruction in the liver meridian pathway.

Now what is a better explanation for what occurred with my child?

1. Growing pains in the joints of the feet or legs causing them to be painful. Nothing to worry about because they will grow out of it.

2. A chemical neuro-sensitivity/allergy caused liver meridian obstruction from toxic release of the dangerous dye Red-40. The nervous system was insulted by this food dye, then during the associated time zone of 1-3 am the body elicited a pain along the pathway. The liver is involved in thousands of functions and modulates pain. The liver meridian path goes down to the foot from the groin region, along the medial (inside) aspect of the leg. Pain can manifest along any point of this pathway.

So now that you have been offered a different perspective, I want you to think next time a child has a “growing pain.” What did they eat or drink the day before, or that day? Was it junk food/candy, processed/refined foods, take-out/restaurant food, sugary and dye filled drinks, or anything with artificial sweetener? Or have they had a recent vaccination, taken a medication, or any other chemical that entered the body that is toxic; this all should be considered as a potential cause of the child’s supposed “growing pains.”

Remember, growing pains physiologically make no sense. In my chiropractic education at Palmer College of Chiropractic, learning about radiology, the late Dr. Ronnie Firth was very clear about the physiological fact that growing bones do NOT hurt. I am going to teach you all the same.

Meridian obstruction in children is very real and quite common in such a toxic nutritional environment in America. These neuro-sensitivities cause many problems in children and adults, and are able to manifest as any symptom along a meridian pathway.
